A Maine Inspired Nautical Brunch

I hope you enjoyed the Guide to Planning a Nautical Party that we recently posted.   Today we’re sharing photos of a Nautical Brunch that we styled last summer and that was featured in two of our go to party and entertaining blogs:  Pizzazzerie and Swanky Chic Fete.  This brunch was a celebration of the many years I lived in Maine and the memories I have of summer days spent strolling around picturesque lobster fishing towns with my kids and hubby.

Nautical PartyThe focal point of the table was a gorgeous Sail Boat placed on a Vanilla- Raspberry Cake. I framed it by hanging a yellow Flag Banner that added a pop of color to the red, blue and white tablescape. I used many props like a Fisherman figurine, a wooden anchor, life guards and lobster buoys that I had been collecting from antique shops or small gift shops to create a true nautical atmosphere.

Nautical Party Planning Guide

Nautical Party Planning Guide

A Nautical Party is a Summer Classic!  It’s such a versatile theme, with so many possible variations.  No matter the size of your party, it is very important the pay close attention to detail  and use the right decor to create a unique atmosphere.  We put together this Nautical Party Planning Guide to help achieve an amazing party.

Nautical Party Theme

Tips for Planning a Nautical Party:

1- Hunt for nautical decor in Flea Markets or Antique Stores.  Look for sailboats, anchors, sailor knots, lighthouses, shells and old bottles.   It’s not only fun but also, you would be amazed by the treasures you could find at a fraction of the cost.

2- Choose a color scheme.  There are so many possible color combinations:   The traditional navy, red and white or you can add other colors like yellow, turquoise or orange for a unique touch.

3- The right nautical party supplies can help you create the  atmosphere you are aiming for.  Flag Banners are wonderful because they create the illusion of a sailboat.  Mason Jars are perfect for serving fresh drinks.  Our Sail Boat Petite Cups and our Tri-Color Petite Blossom Cups are an adorable way to add a unique touch to your nautical theme.  Food presentation is key:  Wooden berry baskets, mini margarita glasses and deli baskets are a fun and easy way to display it.  Nautical-party-supplies-viablossom

4-  Get creative with food by turning hot dogs into sail boats or croissants into crabs!  A backyard lobster Boil would never disappoint, especially if you have adult guests.  Having lived in Maine for about 10 years I had to include my very favorite: Lobster Rolls!  Fish and Chips and Crab Cake Sliders are also a great way to tie the theme.  Using Flag Picks to decorate the food is such an easy way to add a nautical touch to any food.

Nautical Party Dessert Ideas

1. Watermelon Basket 2.Nautical Cake Pops 3. Mason Jar with Life Saver Stirrers 4. Sailboat Popsicle Mold  5. Cake pops arrangements with Petite Blossom Cups  6. Starfish hard candy pop 7. Drink dispenser  8.Lobster Lollipops 9. Sea Life Cookies  10. Sailor Cupcake

5-  Desserts and refreshments:  Shaping fruit like sea creatures is simply genius!   Turning traditional Cake Pops into Sail Boats is such a creative yet easy idea.  I also love how a Mini Donut can become a life saver!  A Cake Pop Floral arrangement with nautical colors will sure make a beautiful and fun centerpiece.  Starfish and lobster lollipops are always a hit among the children.  These decorated cookies and this sailor fondant cupcake topper are just adorable!
